What Does it Mean to Be Human?
Dr. Josh McMullen, Regent University College of Arts & Sciences
The scriptures from the very beginning in Genesis tell us that to be a human being is to be made in the image of God. This is kind of a weighty concept to in some ways represent God on earth. When we talk about human rights, it has to be grounded – for the Christian – in a discussion about being made in the image of God.
The idea that all human beings – it doesn’t matter culture or race or gender – are made in the image of God and, because of that, worthy of dignity and respect. So, for a Christian, any discussion of human rights has to begin there on that foundation.
